Fan installation and TV mounting in Singapore: plan the fixing first
Safe installation starts behind the visible fixture. Learn what to check in the wall or ceiling, when electrical work needs a licensed worker, and what a complete installation quote should cover.
Services covered in this guide
Fan installation
Mount a suitable ceiling or wall fan to a confirmed support and connect it through the correct electrical route.
TV mounting
Select a compatible bracket, verify the wall and fixing points, mount level and manage accessible cables.
Installation
Coordinate owner-supplied fixtures with the substrate, services, access and final make-good.
What should be checked before fan installation?
The installer needs the fan model, weight, mounting detail, ceiling type, support location, ceiling height, existing electrical point and control method. A decorative ceiling board is not automatically a structural support.
If the job includes a new electrical point, rewiring or alteration, it is electrical work—not just assembly. EMA states that electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrical worker. The work scope should separate mounting, electrical connection, testing and any ceiling make-good.
How is a TV mounted safely?
| Check | Why it matters | Information to provide |
|---|---|---|
| TV and bracket compatibility | VESA pattern, weight and motion affect the bracket | Model numbers and bracket type |
| Wall construction | Concrete, masonry and drywall require different fixings | Photos and known wall type |
| Fixing zone | Hidden cables, pipes and studs/supports affect drilling | Preferred height and nearby services |
| Cable route | Power and signal cables need safe, accessible routing | Outlet positions and devices |
| Lease handover | Mounting holes and cable routes may need reinstatement | Tenancy/landlord requirements |
Can a TV be mounted on an HDB drywall?
HDB publishes a Drywall User Guide covering fixtures and suitable anchoring approaches for drywall. The answer depends on the actual wall system, the load, bracket leverage and whether a suitable support or fixing zone is available. A swivelling arm can impose more leverage than a flat bracket.
Do not choose a fixing only by the diameter of the screw. The wall construction, anchor rating, number of fixings, load direction and installation quality work together.
What affects installation cost?
Fan and TV installation quotes depend on the model, assembly, weight, height, access, wall or ceiling type, hidden-service checks, bracket/fixing supply, new points, cable concealment and make-good. An owner-supplied item should be checked for completeness and compatibility before the visit.
Send model numbers, front and side photos of the proposed location, ceiling height or wall dimensions, existing outlet positions and whether the property is occupied or at lease handover.
Installation checklist
- Confirm the exact fan/TV and bracket model numbers.
- Identify the wall or ceiling construction and support points.
- Check the preferred location against furniture, doors and viewing height.
- Locate electrical, water and data services before drilling.
- Use the licensed electrical route for electrical work.
- Agree cable management, testing and make-good.
- Keep installation photos for owner or lease handover records.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an electrician to install a ceiling fan in Singapore?
Fan mounting and electrical work are different tasks, but the electrical connection or alteration must follow Singapore’s licensing requirements. EMA states that electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrical worker.
Can a TV be mounted on drywall?
It can be possible when the wall system, support and rated fixings suit the TV and bracket load. The installer should verify the actual construction; a full-motion bracket creates different forces from a flat mount.
How much does TV mounting cost in Singapore?
Cost depends on TV size and weight, bracket, wall type, access, hidden-service checks, cable route and make-good. Model numbers and photos are needed for a scoped quote.
Do mounting holes need to be repaired at the end of a tenancy?
Often yes if the tenancy requires the wall to be returned to its original handover condition. Check the inventory and lease, then patch, prepare and repaint to an agreed finish rather than filling holes only.
